One of the best aspects of my profession is that I get to meet new people. I get a peek inside lives, inside relationships, & a lot of times, inside people’s homes. I soak everything in – the vibes, the stories on how they met their significant others, & even how they decorate their space.
Making connections is a welcoming perk for me, but documenting connections is my aim. Even in the simplest of actions, connections occur, & sometimes those little moments are the sweetest of all. I have been training my eye to capture that magic & it is so special to me to be able to do that for my clients.
I was invited to document this family’s typical weekend morning routine around their neighborhood in DC, Adams Morgan. We started in their home & since they are a carless family, we headed outdoors & walked everywhere! To their favorite coffee shop, restaurant, farmers market, & park.
This kid didn’t even need any direction from me. He hammed it up all on his own & I couldn’t get enough.
I’ve noticed while connecting with different clients that I begin to envision my family living their lives. Kind of weird, I know, but I do! And I could totally see us living it up in this beautiful community, walking everywhere, connecting with people, & breathing in all aspects of city life.
I felt like I was in a real life sesame street episode. Strangers offered up their dogs & a local neighborhood fireman invited us to check out the fire engine he was washing.
There were even several little free libraries throughout the neighborhood – take a book, leave a book awesomeness.
This documentary/lifestyle session lasted about an hour & a half. In that short time, I was able to capture the true essence of this family’s morning walks through their vibrant neighborhood & I couldn’t be happier with the results.
